From December 4, 2000 to January 31, 2001, Creative Time exhibited the final work of artist Felix Gonzalez-Torres, Untitled (1995). Displayed on billboards in multiples of six, this public art project featured an image of a bird in flight on 24 billboards throughout four of the five boroughs of New York City. This collection ran concurrently with an exhibition at the Andrea Rosen Gallery.

During his life, Cuban-born Gonzales-Torres photographed thousands of birds, which became symbolic of his work. Though an individual privately owns the photograph, it was placed before the public in accordance with the terms of artist’s estate, where everyone had equal access to the work and the freedom of interpretation.
