Anthology Film Archives, 2nd Ave / 1st Street.
Screening to be followed by a conversation
with Téllez and cast members
Limited space; RSVP REQUIRED to development@creativetime.org.
Catch an exclusive preview of Javier Téllez’ new film before it premiers in this year’s Whitney Biennial. The final installment of Six Actions for New York City co-curated by Mark Beasley and David Platzker, the film, co-produced by Creative Time and Peter Kilchmann Gallery, documents a recreation of the ancient parable of the Blind Men and the Elephant, filmed at McCarren Park Pool in Williamsburg, Brooklyn in November, 2007. Inspired by various versions of the tale, from Buddhist fable to the 19th Century poem by English writer John Godfrey Saxe, six visually impaired people describe the experience of touching various parts of an elephant’s body. The responses illustrate how reality and understanding are shaped by perspective and the relativity of absolute truth.
